We offer Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients a structured path to recovery that delivers consistent and lasting results in literally most cases, because we consider all known factors and address them simultaneously.

Our individualized and personalized treatment system has a solid foundation in the work of Dr. Teitelbaum, and is based on the following highly successful system that guides the chronology.

SHINE is a mature program, which we personalize for everyones needs and circumstances to tailor it for optimal results and systems rehabilitation to health.

Stabilize your system by addressing SLEEP disturbances and muscle pain.
Balance HORMONES by evaluating thyroid, adrenal and gender specific hormones.
Treat INFECTIONS by addressing any underlying viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.
Enhance cell and mitochondrial function via focused NUTRITION to optimize energy production.
Graded structured EXERCISE to pulse the mitochondria back into life once they started healing.

Very important additional treatment considerations:

  • Address and treat unique etiologies such as neurotoxins and coagulation defects.
  • When aetiologies have been treated successfully, we provide an Individualized maintenance program with minimum necessary medications and supplements to ensure your outcomes remain positive.

Causative Factors

We actively rehabilitate systems by figuring out Causative Factors, therapeutic priorities and focus which leads to optimal responses:

Remember, Fibromyalgia is a multi body systems disorder, with usually multiple causative factors.

It is important to discover as many of the known factors ~ below are the high priority known causes to Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome.

  • High Stress, for longer than you can endure or recover from in a normal day-night or cyclical rest cycle. This uncompensated stress depletes your adrenal gland stores of DHEA and cortisol, neurotransmitters, tissue and cell vitality – to the extent that you run out of reserves and loose the ability to resist stress and compensate for stress and stressors. You start running on adrenaline as the next best stress hormone, but this causes fight and flight effects, racing heart, inability to tolerate stress and tendency to experience anxiety when feeling stressed.
  • Trauma (like motor vehicle accidents, falling off a horse etc), psychological or emotional traumas (which is usually one single big trauma like the loss of a loved one, divorce or other breakup, or a series of shocks and traumas in a row from which you do not recover and suffer physical symptoms )
  • Pain Responses are abnormal – pain pathways are enhanced (pain impulses take longer to go away after stimulus, does not go away in normal time) abnormal pain perceptions (even light touch sometimes hurt and is interpreted as pain in the nervous system)
  • Day night rhythm and sleep disruptions. Sleep is the most healing process in the body therefore getting you sleeping consistently well is key to unlocking the self healing principle. Sleep optimization always is the top and first priority. Sleeping consistently better causes pain and fatigue to improve nearly right away in most cases. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is an important yet often ignored aspect of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome. We work with sleep doctors that are experienced in diagnosing and treating OSA with CPAP machines or orthotic devices – which is also suitable to treat excessive snoring or upper airway resistance syndrome.
  • Immune System Problems include low immunity with decreased resistance to infections AND auto-immune problems like Hashimotos thyroid disease, allergies etc. Both low immunity and auto-immunity set the stage for more inflammation, pain and increased fatigue through various mechanisms.
  • Chronic infections, such as a viral, bacterial, parasitic or yeast/fungi – this is a VERY common problem and most patients don’t know they have the infection (core symptoms are fatigue, brain fog, sleep problems etc., with about half of adults not experiencing fevers, night sweats, sore throats etc) until after lab testing and review of findings. Viral: Herpes 4 HHV4 [ Epstein Barr Virus (EBV or Mono), Herpes Virus 6 and 7 (HHV6 HHV7), HSV1&2, other childhood viruses, after the “drop dead” flu, Parvo B19 (Fifth disease)
Bacterial and parasitic: Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Streptococcus, Lyme, Bartonella, Rickettsia, Babesia – in many patients we find and treat intestinal worms and parasites that contribute to various problems in the digestive, energy production, neurological and other systems.
Yeast and fungi: Candida is a very frequently encountered immune challenge that can cause a tremendous degree to fatigue and memory disturbance, chronic sinusitis and IBS without the typical oral or vaginal thrush.
  • Hormone imbalance, low hormones – thyroid hormone esp T3 and sometimes elevated T3 Reverse, low adrenal hormones (DHEA, pregnenolone, cortisol and much of the time adrenaline / noradrenaline is also low on testing) and ovarian / testicular hormones (estrogens, progesterone, testosterone)
  • Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome or MCS is a core part of many patient’s illness. Sensitivities to everyday chemicals, which are processed OK by most people, implies that your chemical processing is not the same as the average person. This causes problems with medicines and herbs at normal doses, household cleaners, diesel and exhaust fumes and perfumes and deodorants. This responds very well to treatment and makes the world of difference over the long term. Our sickest patients usually have an MCS component.
  • Biotoxin illness– especially problematic in the Pacific Northwest and other humid areas ~ mold and other biological toxins are a real problem due to their potency and the way certain genetic types struggle with this: immune activation, inflammatory problems, brain fog and most problematic, when the body cannot properly rid itself due to reabsorption in the digestive tract. There are effective ways to break the cycle of re-cycling the biotoxins. Occasionally this leads to wonderful improvement. Yet again, [ongoing] dose of exposure and genetic susceptibility determines how significantly you are going to be affected and the duration of the recovery period.
  • Toxic metals, heavy metals– various metals cause and contribute to the development of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. This is a real problem and we test most of our patients for increased body stores of metals using a provoked urine collection method. Mercury (from industry, suggestedly coal power plant emissions from China, amalgams, (farmed or atlantic) fish, environmental), lead, thallium, cadmium, uranium, aluminum and a handful of other metals cause multi-system metabolic disruption that metals are classified as mitochondrial – , endocrine – , immune – , neurological – disruptors and can cause chronic persistent disease in many body systems. Usually, the older we become, the more time there is for biological accumulation of metals in our tissues. If there are any signs of chemical sensitivity or processing problems your body will accumulate and store more metals than the average person. Chelation therapy with as done in our office and under our guidance at home is effective, safe and typically delivers good results.
  • Nutritional factors– with the current state of agriculture, GMO’s, depleted soils, the disastrous health effects of the Standard American Diet and increased dietary requirements during states of disease – deficiencies are present in most patients with multi system disease. Focused intervention with nutrient patterns specific for the needs of the immune system, adrenal glands, mitochondrial needs, detoxification system among others are essential for systems revival.
  • Genetic or family inheritance– multi system illness like fibromyalgia does occur in families, especially in mother-daughter pairs. In addition to inherited ability to process chemicals, fight off infections, there is a common exposure to agricultural, industrial, bio toxins, infections, dietary, lifestyle and behavior patterns that is learned in families.

Aggravating symptoms:

Fibromyalgia patients are often experience many symptoms in numerous body systems.  in addition to aggravations from emotional upset, exposures to odors, temperature and seasonal changes to name a few.

Other symptoms frequently experienced:

  • chest pain unrelated to the heart

If all you had was muscle pain, it would be so much easier to understand your illness. But what do your achy muscles have to do with your sleep difficulties, profound exhaustion, digestive problems, memory and concentration deficits, lack of balance and coordination, skin sensitivities, and a variety of seemingly unrelated symptoms?

And how about the following symptoms someone with fibromyalgia has to deal with on a daily and weekly basis?

  • Muscular knots, aches, stiffness, cramping, twitching
  • Why those knotted trigger points are the source of many symptoms
  • Too much fatigue, too little energy, and too weak to move
  • What’s going on to cause your brain fog and trouble finding the right words?
  • The role your nervous system plays in generating symptoms such as dry eyes and mouth, dizziness, and cold extremities
  • How your dysfunctional brain and spinal cord are magnifying your pain and a host of other sensory sensitivities, such as loud noises and clothing textures
